Apple Cuts iPhone SE 2022 Production, What's Up?

The iPhone SE 2022 was just launched a few weeks ago. But the Nikkei Asia reported that Apple plans to cut production of the cheap iPhone 5G.

Citing an unnamed source, the Nikkei said Apple cut production of the iPhone SE 2022 due to the global conflict involving Russia and Ukraine, as well as rising inflation.

Apple plans to cut iPhone SE 2022 production by up to 20% in the next quarter due to lower -than -expected demand. This figure is equivalent to 2-3 million units.

Production of the iPhone 13 is also rumored to be reduced. But not because of low demand, but because of seasonal changes in demand.

In addition to the iPhone SE 2022, Apple also cut the production of AirPods for 2022 to 10 million units. But it is not known what model AirPods are reduced in production.

News of the drop in iPhone demand follows predictions by some analysts who warn that the lockdown due to COVID-19 in China and rising inflation due to the Ukraine conflict could affect mobile phone demand this year.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF Securities even lowered its iPhone SE shipping estimates this year, from a previous 25-30 million units to 15-20 million units.

Apple and the iPhone SE 2022 are indeed predicted to have difficulty attracting consumers due to their outdated design and slightly more expensive price than its predecessor thanks to additional 5G support.

"It looks very similar to the iPhone SE (2020), the second refurbishment of the iPhone 8, and is even less likely to arouse consumer interest," Isaiah Research analyst Eddie Han was quoted as saying by Reuters on Tuesday (29/3/2022) .
