Attention! Internet Explorer Will Shut Down June 15, 2022

 


Microsoft again reminds users to stop using Internet Explorer. As is known, this legendary browser will be turned off on June 15, 2022.

"As already announced, the future of Internet Explorer on Windows is in Microsoft Edge," said Microsoft's announcement, as quoted by TechRadar, Monday (21/3/2022).


"The Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) desktop application will be retired on June 15, 2022, across some versions of Windows 10."



After being retired on June 15, 2022, the Internet Explorer application will be shut down and discontinued. Users who try to open this browser on their device will be immediately redirected to Microsoft Edge.


Microsoft explains that users who want nostalgia can still use Internet Explorer mode (IE mode) in Microsoft Edge. IE mode is a feature that supports legacy sites and applications until they can be moved to new software.


Microsoft first announced the retirement schedule for Internet Explorer on Windows 10 and Microsoft 365 in August 2020. Since then, they have started to slowly discontinue support for Internet Explorer.


After the first announcement, Microsoft discontinued Internet Explorer support in Teams on November 30, 2020, followed by support in Microsoft 365 in August 2021.



Several external services have also withdrawn their support for Internet Explorer. Like Google Search, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and other Google Workspace apps that have discontinued support since 2021.


Microsoft Edge which is the successor to Internet Explorer is increasingly popular among internet users. According to StatCounter data, Microsoft Edge is now used on 9.54% of desktops worldwide, still behind Safari (9.84%) and Google Chrome (65.38%
