The term sandwich generation has recently become popular among the public. Not a generation that likes to eat bread, this term is a description of people who bear the cost of living for themselves, their small family, and their parents.
Their position squeezed up and down is what makes them like the contents of a sandwich. Usually, this is experienced by adults, who already have children and elderly parents.
Being in that position is not always a good idea although it is a noble deed. Not only financial responsibilities, being the sandwich generation also has emotional responsibilities.
As a generation that bears the financial burden of two families, apparently the sandwich generation has different conditions and this makes the sandwich generation grouped into three types. Anything? Compiled from Senior Living, here are the reviews.
The Traditional Sandwich Generation
The sandwich generation is traditionally depicted as adults typically in their 40s or early 50s and sandwiched between aging parents and their growing children. The condition is that parents and children both need financial or other assistance.
Club Sandwich Generation
Unlike the traditional sandwich generation, the club sandwich generation is adults in their 50s or 60s sandwiched between their aging parents, their adult children, and their grandchildren.
On the other hand, the term also refers to young adults in their 30s or 40s who have young children, elderly parents, and elderly grandparents as well. Can you imagine?
The Open Face Sandwich Generation
Now, the open faced sandwich generation or the open faced sandwich generation are those who are non-professionally involved in caring for the elderly, be it their own parents or other family members. It is estimated that 25% of human age will feel this way in life.
