China is getting tougher in battling minors' addictions to the internet and video games. They asked streaming service providers and other social media, to insert 'Teenager Mode'.
This is done, in an effort to limit the amount of time minors consume certain content. Including getting around them, so as not to spend large amounts of money, related to purchasing items or other things in the game.
"We want to strengthen cyber governance in accordance with the law, strengthen online content construction and create a cyberspace, which is clean for the majority of netizens, especially young people," said Xi Jinping, President of China. (16/3/2022).
They have also enacted a new bill, which aims to increase internet awareness among minors, establish information content norms, protect children's personal information and control internet addiction.
The regulations cover not only games, but other forms of entertainment, such as audio and visuals. The bill even requires that hardware manufacturers, accept government and social scrutiny. By installing software and inserting 'Teenager Mode', before selling it to consumers.
From the documents disclosed, it shows that the internet penetration rate in China has reached almost 95% for minors. Where they are often confused, when handling illegal and bad information when receiving it online.
A little information, China itself has tightened the rules for playing games for children since last year. This Bamboo Curtain country, stipulates that playing time online games should not be more than three hours during the week.
