Google announced that it is making several improvements to its search results service to better display product reviews in its search engine.
The idea behind this update is to ensure that the reviews that users see are of high quality and actually include useful information about the product they might be considering buying.
"To ensure that product reviews on Search meet certain criteria," said Perry Liu of Google, in a blog post as quoted by us from The Verge.
Google explains that reviews that are included in the search criteria are reviews that provide detailed and useful information such as the advantages and disadvantages of the product, specifications or product differences from previous versions.
Google will also determine whether those who provide the review are actually using the product or not. This can be proven by displaying a physical product image or providing information on how to use it.
It would be even better, if the review included unique information outside of the information provided by the product's maker, for example, such as visuals, videos or by linking to other content that details the reviewer's experience.
According to the company's report, this update will start rolling out over the next few weeks and will affect English product reviews on many sites. Google also plans to open product review support for more languages in the future.
