This Drone Hits Russian Convoy, Turkey Speaks Up

The Bayraktar TB2 drone, which is quite sophisticated, was relied on by Ukraine and succeeded in destroying several Russian military convoys that invaded their country. The Turkish government also spoke about it.

Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister, Yavuz Selim Kiran, stated that the drones were not Turkey's aid for Ukraine but that the Ukrainians had bought them from a Turkish company. The company name is Baykar.

Some time ago, Turkey and Ukraine also agreed that the production of Bayraktar TB2 could be carried out in Ukraine. However, with the official's statement, Turkey seems to want to emphasize their neutral position and are open to negotiating talks on both sides.

"Private defense industry companies can make such deals with the state. This (drone) is not aid from Turkey. Drones are products purchased by Ukraine from Turkish companies. What's more, Ukraine is not the only country buying Bayraktar TB2. There are queues for buy it," said Kiran.

"The fact that (Bayraktar TB2) stands out as one of the defense elements of the Ukrainian military really shows the success and quality of the products made by our company. (But) we will not lose our position for negotiations with both sides," he added.

Turkey itself is seeking peace between Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine has so far purchased about 20 Bayraktar TB2 drones.

In addition to Ukraine, Baykar has agreed to sell Bayraktar TB2 to other countries such as Qatar, Poland and Azerbaijan. Other countries have also shown interest.

The drone, although clearly not as sophisticated as the United States military drone such as the Reaper, is still considered powerful with various advantages.

Flying for the first time in 2014, the Bayraktar TB2 is getting more and more capable. It can carry weapons of up to 150 kilograms and launch attacks on opposing tanks or bunkers.

This drone is 6.5 meters long and has a wingspan of 12 meters. In addition to attacking the enemy, Bayraktar TB2 can also be used for reconnaissance missions from the air. It can fly for 24 to 25 hours at a maximum altitude of 7,300 meters both during the day and at night.

The Turkish military itself has often used Bayraktar TB2, among other things, to help them fight the militants in their country. This drone was also reported to have had great success when it destroyed 73 war vehicles in Syria.

Some time ago, Ukraine and Turkey had agreed to develop the drone production in Ukraine. The manufacturing cost alone is worth USD 5 million per unit and is a source of pride for Turkey, where quite a few countries are interested and ordered it.
