Instagram Presents Features To Supervise Children Playing Social Media

It was announced last December, that Instagram has finally officially released a tool, namely Parental Supervision, which allows parents to monitor their children's activities on Instagram.

Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, said with the tool parents can view and set limits on the amount of time their children spend on Instagram.

Parents can also see who the users are following or following on their children's Instagram accounts. In addition, parents will also be given a notification when children report someone's account on Instagram.

The Parental Supervision feature is only available in the United States and in the coming months Instagram is also planning to roll out this tool more widely globally.

It is planned that this feature will be available on Instagram mobile or desktop in June 2022. However, it should be noted that to be able to use this feature, parents must also obtain the consent of the child. Later they will receive a notification of parental supervision.

Launching from the official Meta website, Instagram also launched Family Centre, a feature aimed at giving parents easy access in one place to monitor how their children use Meta apps, including Instagram.

"We're making this monitoring tool available in the new Family Center. We're working with experts, parents, guardians and teens to develop Family Center, a new place for parents to monitor their child's accounts on the Meta service/app," said Mosseri in a blog post on the Meta site.

"Our vision for Family Center is to ultimately enable parents and guardians to help their teens manage experiences across Meta technologies, all from one central place."
