The price of PC graphics cards has been declining lately, although it is still much more expensive than the retail price suggested by the manufacturer.
However, according to Nvidia, this does not stop gamers from buying new graphics cards. In fact, gamers are willing to pay more, up to USD 300 higher than the price of a replaced graphics card.
This was stated by Nvidia SVP Jeff Fisher when talking to Nvidia investors, who said that there are millions of PC gamers who use GeForce GPUs who update their graphics cards to the RTX 30 series.
"GPUs offer a higher value than before. Based on our data, they spend more than USD 300 more expensive than the price of the graphics card they replace," explained Fisher.
Even so, Fisher also admits that only 29% of Nvidia graphics card users are already using the RTX series. While the rest are still using the GTX series.
Fisher's confession is in line with Steam's report, which states that to date the most popular graphics card on the platform is the GTX 1060, which replaced the GTX 750 in December 2017 in the same position. In fact, there are only two RTX series in the current top 10 list, namely the RTX 2060 in 4th position and RTX 3060 in 8th position.
According to a recent report, currently graphics card prices in Europe are at their lowest point compared to early 2021. Meanwhile, the average GPU price on eBay fell 10% between February and March.
While that's a good thing, according to Techspot's records, the average consumer is still paying 50% more than the manufacturer's recommended price for a graphics card.
However, the graphics card market will also change when Nvidia releases the RTX 40 codenamed Lovelace, and AMD releases RDNA 3. However, Nvidia says the RTX 30 series will still be produced together with the RTX 40.
