Portrait of the Soviet-era MiG-29 fighter jet that became the mainstay of Ukraine

The MiG-29 fighter jet has become one of Ukraine's mainstays in the face of Russian attacks. Intrigued by the specifications and advantages of this fighter jet? Let's see.

The MiG-29 is a Soviet-made fighter jet that has been in use since 1982 and has been Ukraine's mainstay in the face of Russian attacks, which have invaded the country since February 24, 2022.

It is known that the MiG-29 is designed to be a front-line dog fighter and a lightweight version of the Sukhoi Su-27. The factory is Mikoyan from Russia

This fighter jet has dual engines and is known as a low-cost short-range tactical fighter. When the Soviet Union disbanded in 1991, Ukraine received 220 MiG-29s, but now only 43 remain

This fighter jet is also designed to be able to perform extraordinary maneuvers while flying in the air. Maintenance costs have forced Ukraine to sell some of their MiG-29s

Interestingly, this fighter jet is also equipped with the world's first Helmet Mounted Sighting system to achieve wide operational use. While not as sophisticated as the current JHMCS Helmet Mounted Displays, it did allow MiG-29 pilots to lock their R73 Head Seeker onto any visible target within the range of the missile seeker's head gimble.

The capabilities and maneuverability of the MiG-29 make this fighter jet a mainstay against Russia, even though the aircraft is now in its 30s.

MiG 29 has dimensions of 17.32 meters long, 11.36 meters wingspan, 4.73 meters high. The jet engines are 2 Klimov RD-33 units. Maximum speed of 2,400 km/h, cruising range of 1,430 km.
