Realme's Future Products Will Be More Environmentally Friendly

Mobile phone vendors are now launching more and more environmentally friendly devices. Various methods are used, ranging from using recycled materials, to making the packaging box smaller by removing some accessories.

Realme is the next vendor to release an environmentally friendly phone with the Realme GT 2 Pro. Vice President of Realme & President of Realme International Business Group Madhav Sheth said this was only the first step of Realme's eco-friendly policy.

"The target in 2025 is to become double zero (zero waste, zero carbon emission). So you will see more initiatives coming from Realme," Madhav said in an interview with us ahead of the MWC 2022 event.

Realme GT 2 Pro itself is designed with a Paper Tech Master design that is more environmentally friendly. In collaboration with designer Naoto Fukasawa, Realme created a bio-based polymer material used to wrap the back of the GT 2 Pro.

In addition, the Realme packaging box also reduces the use of plastic in the GT 2 Pro packaging box from 21.7% to 0.3%. Realme also uses more environmentally friendly inks in this packaging.

Realme also said that the GT 2 Pro has received several certifications stating that this phone is not only environmentally friendly but also sustainable. This phone is certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certificate (ISCC) and TCO.

One way to make cell phones more environmentally friendly is to extend their lifespan so they don't have to be replaced every year or two. There are various ways to extend the life of a cellphone, one of which is by offering an operating system update for a long period of time.

Madhav said that Realme is one of the brands that provides the most Android updates for their phones. Not only that they also always provide an updated scrolling timeline for users.

Realme itself offers Android updates for up to three generations and security updates for four years for the Realme GT 2 series. This phone has also been launched with Android 12 wrapped in Realme UI 3.0.

"More and more people are using different applications. Security patch updates are very important for users, so as a brand, I think we have provided the most number of updates, not only for high-end phones but also entry level phones," concluded Madhav.
