Nvidia has released the latest GPU from the RTX 30 series, the RTX 3090 Ti, which is claimed to be the fastest graphics card in the world.
These GPUs will be available from Nvidia OEMs such as Asus, Colorful, EVGA, Gainward, Galax, Gigabyte, Inno3D, MSI, Palit, PNY, and Zotac. But Nvidia also made a Founders Edition of the RTX 3090 Ti which was sold on a limited basis.
The RTX 3090 Ti uses a triple slot design, just like the RTX 3090. Even the shape looks identical at first glance. The GPU chip used is GA102, which is made with 8nm fabrication.
The chip is paired with 24GB GDDR6X VRAM running at 21GB/s. This VRAM capacity is the same as the RTX 3090, but 7.7% faster, resulting in a total bandwidth of 1008GB/s.
Nvidia claims the RTX 3090 Ti has 40 teraflops of performance, resulting from a GPU speed of 1560MHz, which can be increased to 1860MHz. This number of teraflops increased from 36 teraflops in the RTX 3090, which has a speed of 1395 MHz to 1695 MHz.
Other specifications for the RTX 3090 Ti are 10,752 CUDA cores, 78 RT-TFLOP, and 320 Tensor-TFLOP.
Then, what about the gaming performance? Nvidia claims the RTX 3090 Ti will on average be 64% faster than the RTX 2080 Ti, and 9% faster than the RTX 3090.
If Nvidia used to position the RTX 3090 for gaming purposes at 8K resolution, now they position the RTX 3090 Ti for creators, professionals, or anyone who needs the fastest GPU, be it for gaming or creative purposes.
This GPU is designed for large projects that use applications such as Blender, Maya, or Cinema4D. Or it could be a research system that uses large data sets.
Now about the price, of course the RTX 3090 Ti will not be cheap. Because Nvidia is marketing this GPU with prices starting at USD 1,999. Supposedly, OEMs will also market the RTX 3090 Ti at a price above USD 2,000.
This is the first time Nvidia has released a GeForce GPU for gaming that costs almost $2,000. Although -- for now -- the price of the RTX 3090 on the market has already penetrated that number.
Not only is the price high, the RTX 3090 Ti's power requirements are fantastic. Nvidia recommends using a minimum power supply of 850 watts, because this GPU uses 450 watts of power, 100 watts higher than the RTX 3090.
Oh yes, Nvidia is no longer using the 12 pin power connector they use on other RTX 30s. These pins are replaced with 16 PCIe Gen5 pins, which is also unusual. So Nvidia included a dongle that requires three 8-pin connectors to supply power to the RTX 3090 Ti.
