Sony sued over allegations of sexism and discrimination against women

Emma Majo, a former IT security analyst at PlayStation, has filed a lawsuit against Sony. This was the aftermath of his suspicions, on the reason why he was fired.

According to Majo, the termination was accepted because he spoke about gender bias in the studio. Where it happened, after he sent a statement detailing the sexist activities he experienced there, quoted us from Engadget, Tuesday (15/3/2022).

Had filed a lawsuit in the class action category, the accusations made by Majo were rejected by Sony, due to lack of evidence. Then shortly after it happened, seven former employees and one employee joined the lawsuit.

Marie Harrington, one of the plaintiffs who had worked at Sony for 17 years, revealed her reasons for leaving after a long service. He revealed that inappropriate behavior, such as sexism, was also the cause.

"When I left Sony, I told Rachel Ghadban, SVP and Director of HR at Rancho Bernado's office, that the reason I left was systemic sexism against women," Harrington said.

But unfortunately, Harrington himself did not find the right solution after telling him. The HR director simply replied 'I understand' and did not ask for further information, in an attempt to dig deeper into the matter.

"I've spoken to the HR director many times before about sexism against women," Harrington added.

Other plaintiffs also shared similar things, including discrimination against career status in the workplace. Sony prioritizes men as potential high-performing employees.

"When two women are discussed, managers spend time discussing the fact that they have families. Family status is never discussed for men," says Harrington.

This is the umpteenth case of sexism and discrimination against women that has occurred in a major game studio. Previously there were Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft and Riot Games.
