The Story of Ukrainian Soldiers Loosing and Recycling Russian Weapons

Every way is done by the Ukrainian army to resist the Russian invasion of the country. In addition to sophisticated weapons from foreign countries, the Ukrainian military also recycles weapons that have been seized from the Russian side.

In an attack in the capital Kyiv, Ukrainian troops attacked Russia with Uragan missiles which incidentally belonged to Russia. The Ukrainian military confirmed they were reusing the weapons they had seized.

"We sent soldiers with 24 Uragan missiles. We took the guns intact, gave them to the Ukrainian army and now the Ukrainians are firing them at the Russian side," said Yuri Golodov of the Ukrainian military.

Golodov was one of the armies that played a key role in the recycling of captured Russian weapons or vehicles, including tanks. He and his team are working at an undisclosed location in Kyiv to make it ready for use again.

"Everything we took from the Russian military, we gave it to the Ukrainian military," he said, as quoted by CNN, Tuesday (22/3/2022).

The vehicle or weapon was not only repaired, but also repainted with the Ukrainian flag. Many of the Russian equipment or weapons are similar or even the same as Ukrainian weapons so there is no difficulty in operating.

"It's from the time of the Soviet Union, still quite reliable. Everything works well. It looks outdated, but if used properly it will last a long time," claims Golodov.

Damage is unavoidable because usually, Russian equipment or vehicles are shot first so that some parts don't work. But after being serviced, the equipment becomes quite useful.

"We are part of a special army battalion working near enemy lines. Our task is to destroy the supplies of the Russian army, be it ammunition, fuel or food," the Ukrainian soldier added.
