The Witcher Successor is Working on Unreal Engine 5

CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has confirmed that they are working on a successor to The Witcher game, which is promised to be the start of a new saga for this game series.

This game will be the first The Witcher game since they released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2015. The biggest change of this new game is the game engine used, from the previous one using REDengine -- which has been in use for more than a decade -- to Unreal Engine 5.

The use of Unreal Engine 5 is part of the strategic collaboration for several years between CDPR and Epic Games, as quoted by us from The Verge, Wednesday (23/3/2022).

Even so, the latest The Witcher will not be available exclusively for the Epic Games Stores. Then CDPR will continue to use REDengine for several other projects, such as the next expansion for Cyberpunk 2077.

CDPR did not reveal any further information about the new The Witcher, such as the target date for its release. However, if you look at the existing games made by CDPR, it is likely that the release of The Witcher will take a long time.

This is because the previous CDPR games, such as Cyberpunk 2077, which was first showcased in 2012, then the first trailer appeared in 2013, and were delayed several times until finally released in December 2020.

Even after its release, Cyberpunk 2077 still experienced many problems and various bugs, which were still being fixed a year after the game.

One of the most important pieces of information from Radek Grabowski, CDPR's global PR director, is that the successor to The Witcher will not be titled The Witcher 4.

For information, even though The Witcher 3 has been released since 2015 until now, it is still widely regarded as one of the best open world RPG games. Its popularity also persists, one of which is helped by its TV series that airs on Netflix.
