Twitter Removes 50 Thousand Hoax Content About Russia-Ukraine

The Russian invasion of Ukraine since last February is still a hot topic discussed by netizens on social media. Issues related to the conflict between the two countries are certainly not free from hoax information and have been manipulated in such a way on social media, one of which is Twitter.

Reporting from Engadget, Twitter said it had labeled and removed more than 50,000 content that violated their policies regarding manipulated content about Russia Ukraine.

In addition, there were about 75 thousand more accounts with 'inauthentic' behavior or spam which were also removed from the Twitter platform.

While not all of these accounts were involved in the topic of war propaganda, most did engage with the hashtag #IStandWithPutin, a fake campaign from a coordinated account that went viral on Twitter last month.

Twitter also found various 'actors' responsible for manipulating old footage into what appeared to be new conflicts as well as numerous fundraising scams for Ukraine.

Since late February, Twitter has tagged more than 61,000 tweets that include links to state media such as RT (Russia Today) as well as Russia-run Sputnik.

It is known, the two media, RT and Sputnik, are still allowed by Twitter to be able to operate on its platform. However, their account will be given a special label, thereby reducing their engagement. In addition, both are also prohibited from advertising on Twitter.

Fake information regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine has been growing rapidly on social media every day, with most posting sharing photos and videos that do not know the truth.

The Russian government itself has blocked access of its civilians from several major platforms such as Google, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok. It aims to suppress differences of opinion among its citizens.
