Popular streaming service Netflix has announced that it will begin testing a feature that will incur additional fees for users who frequently share their accounts.
Reporting Reuters, this test is being carried out by Netflix in several countries such as Chile, Costa Rica and Peru. Later, users can add up to two people who do not live in the same house on the standard and premium plans.
Netflix is also exploring another feature that allows members on a basic, standard, or premium plan to transfer their profile information to a new account or sub-account that stores data such as viewing history and personalized recommendations.
Netflix currently allows people living in the same household to share their Netflix accounts. However, the plan has created confusion about when and how accounts can be shared.
"We recognize that people have many entertainment options, so we want to make sure each new feature is flexible and useful for members, whose subscriptions fund all of our great TV and movies," Netflix said.
"We will work to understand the usefulness of these two features for members in these three countries before making changes elsewhere in the world."
Netflix says it will thoroughly test the feature for their utility before deploying it to more countries.
