Apple seems to have a special interest in games. After all, games are the most popular category in its app store, plus Apple is investing in Apple Arcade to deliver a more premium gaming experience. So, don't be surprised if there is a patent about a game controller.
Quoted from Cult of Mac, Apple seems to be considering making its own game controller as stated in a patent it registered.
According to the US Patent & Trademark Office page, the device was approved on March 31, 2022 under the name "Magnetically Attachable Gaming Accessory". As for the patent itself, it has been registered since August 2021.
There are at least three game controller designs that Apple has prepared. The first design resembles Nintendo's Joy Con, the second design is in the form of a magnetic pad, and the third design is like PlayStation and Xbox-style Joysticks.
If Apple does make it, this means, users can quickly connect the accessory to a device like an iPhone or iPad and start playing games right away.
Seeing as Apple is rumored to be bringing MagSafe to the iPad, such an accessory makes sense. Plus, Apple can also ensure optimal compatibility, perhaps with games on Apple Arcade.
However, before we get our hopes up, remember that so far the news is only limited to patents. It's hard to guess whether Apple will actually make it or not. In addition, the presence of this patent shows Apple's ambition to master various lines of technology, one of which is the gaming industry. We are waiting for the latest news!
