Asrock Makes Crypto Miners Use 'PS5 Processors'


 Asrock, a PC component manufacturer, built a crypto mining server that uses 12 AMD BC-250 cards, which are believed to be the system on a chip (SoC) used in the PlayStation 5 (PS5).

This mining capability reaches 610 MH/s, and is sold at a price of USD 14,800, as quoted by Techspot, Thursday (31/3/2022).


This AMD BC-250 is believed to be a PS5 SoC that does not meet the requirements, aka reject goods. Just like the AMD 4700S and 4800S Desktop Kit, which are small motherboards with non-qualified PS5 processors.



Asroc Mining Rig Barebone 610 Mhs 12x AMD BC-250 is sold in Slovenia at a price of 13,499 euros or around USD 14,800. The 12 AMD BC-250s used are cooled using five 80mm fans, and paired with 16GB of GDDR6 RAM, and two 1200W power supplies.



The mining capability of an AMD BC-250 is believed to be around 50MH/s, which is in line with Asrock's claims about the mining capabilities of its servers.








If each APU costs USD 999, then the buyers should get their return -- at the current price of Ethereum -- after 440 to 530 days. Of course, it also depends on the Ethereum exchange rate and the electricity cost where the server operates.


In comparison, the Nvidia RTX 3090 GPU -- an Nvidia GPU unlocked with LHR -- can mine Ethereum at 120MH/s with a power consumption of 300W.


That is, five for the RTX 3090 will have the same power as the Asrock server, and the price is around USD 11 thousand. Of course, not counting the other components needed to mine.


Previously there was also Intel which released a Bitcoin mining machine with 300 Bonanza Mine BMZ1 chips that consume 3600W of electricity, and have a hash rate of 40 TH/s.
