Call Twitter Dying, Elon Musk Proposes These Changes

Less than a week since joining Twitter, Elon Musk has made a series of suggestions to make the social media platform relevant again. Even in one of his tweets he called Twitter dying.

Since buying a 9.2% stake in Twitter and becoming the largest shareholder, Musk has posted several tweets containing suggestions about new features and concerns about Twitter's future. But of course it is not clear which one is a serious proposal and which one is just a joke.

In one of his tweets, Musk said he was worried that many accounts that had blue ticks and had millions of followers like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber rarely used Twitter anymore.

"Is Twitter dying? For example, Taylor Swift hasn't posted anything in three months. And Justin Bieber only posts once this year," Musk said in his tweet, as quoted by The Guardian, Monday (11/4/2022).

One of Musk's main concerns about Twitter is its moderation policies. In late March, after buying Twitter stock but not disclosing it to the public, Musk created a poll to ask his followers whether Twitter was up to the principle of free speech.

As a result, the majority of Musk's followers answered 'no'. The CEO of SpaceX and Tesla then revealed his plans to create a new social media that prioritizes free speech.

Since joining the Twitter board, Musk's proposals have had less weight. In one tweet, he asked if Twitter users still wanted the edit tweet feature. Shortly after, Twitter immediately announced that they were developing an edit feature.

In another series of tweets, Musk criticized the features offered by the paid service Twitter Blue. He said users should be able to pay the Twitter Blue subscription fee using dogecoin.

Not only that, Twitter Blue subscribers should get a checkmark to certify the authenticity of their account and no longer serve ads.

Other proposals are likely to be rejected, such as Musk's proposal to turn Twitter's San Francisco headquarters into a homeless shelter because no one else is coming to work.

91% of his followers answered 'yes'. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos even chimed in and supported Musk's proposal, citing the Amazon office connected to a homeless shelter.

"Or partially made. Goes well and makes it easier for employees who want to volunteer," Bezos said in a tweet replying to Musk.

Another of Musk's proposals is a bit ridiculous, namely removing the 'w' in Twitter's name. The poll comes with two answer options: 'yes' and 'of course'. More than one million people have already voted in the poll with the majority voting 'yes'.
