Candiru, Israeli Spyware Attacking Indonesia


 America issued a report on human rights practices in the world. The name Candiru spyware was created to attack activists in Indonesia. This is the figure of the Candiru spyware.

Previously, the United States Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued the 2021 Human Rights Practice Report on April 12, 2022. There were 198 countries in the spotlight, including Indonesia.


There are several cases including one of them is on July 15, 2021, Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto published a report on the use of a spy device (spyware) product by an Israeli company called Candiru. Spyware is only sold to the government. The Citizen Lab report stated that the spyware was used against an Indonesian website called IndoProgress.



What is Candiru spyware? Reported by us from Israeli media, Haaretz as seen on Saturday (16/4/2022) Candiru is a technology company in Tel Aviv, Israel that was founded in 2014. Its founders are Eran Shorer and Yaakov Weizman.


Haaretz explains Candiru is a very mysterious and secret company. There is no company website and all employees sign a silence agreement and cannot admit to working there on their LinkedIn profile.


Candiru offers cyber espionage and surveillance technology services to government clients. Candiru takes its name from a parasitic fish in the Amazon that can enter the human urinary tract.



That's why, Candiru offers spyware that can penetrate the victim's computer, server, mobile device and cloud. The target is Windows users. All devices can be infiltrated and spied on by Candiru starting from Android, iPhone, Mac, PC to Cloud accounts.


"This tool is used in precision attacks against target computers, phones, network infrastructure and internet-connected devices," said Cristin Goodwin, General Manager of Microsoft's Digital Security Unit.


Candiru was reported by Citizen Lab as attacking via malicious links, Man in The Middle (MiTM) attacks, armed files for Windows OS and online physical attacks. Candiru can also steal data from a number of applications ranging from Gmail, Skype, Telegram and Facebook.


Candiru also steals cookies and passwords from Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Opera. Candiru is not random spyware and is really terrible.
