Elon Musk is currently the richest person in the world with a net worth of USD 275 billion, according to Forbes data. However, he admits that he does not have a home and often stays at his friend's house.
"I don't even have a house right now, I'm literally living at a friend's place," Musk said in an interview with TED curator Chris Anderson.
"If I go to the Bay Area, where most of Tesla's engineering is, I basically move around from my friends' spare bedrooms," he continued.
This is not surprising considering that in 2020 Musk said he would sell all his possessions, including the house. The CEO of SpaceX and Tesla then sold three of his luxury homes located in the elite area of Bel Air, California.
In June 2021, Musk said his current primary home was a tenement he leased from SpaceX. The $50,000 house is a 6 x 6 meter modular home and is located not far from SpaceX's facilities in Boca Chica, Texas.
In one of his tweets, Musk also said the only house he owns is in the Bay Area. "If I sell it, the house will be used less and less, unless it's bought by a large family, which will probably happen one day," Musk said in a tweet.

When asked about the wealth gap between billionaires like himself and the average American, Musk admitted it would be problematic if he were to spend billions of dollars on personal expenses.
Although his lifestyle is surprising for a billionaire, Musk admits he still can't escape his one luxury facility, namely a private jet.
"Of course it would be problematic if I spent billions of dollars a year on personal consumption, but that's not the fact. It's not that my personal consumption is high," Musk said.
"If I don't use the plane, then I will have less time to work," he continued.
