Elon Musk Reveals Reasons He Wants to Master Twitter, Not About Money

Elon Musk is trying to buy all of Twitter's shares with a bid of around $43 billion. If Twitter's leadership agrees and Elon Musk takes control of the app, there's likely to be a drastic change in Twitter.

Speaking at the TED conference, the Tesla and SpaceX skipper stated his reasons for buying Twitter were not business or economic related, but to ensure that Twitter will remain a trusted platform for democracy.

"This is not the way to make money. My strong intuition is that having a fully trusted and broadly inclusive public platform is very important for the future of civilization," he said, as quoted by CNN.

Musk thinks Twitter is still lacking in freedom of speech. Then, Twitter's content moderation should also be more transparent than it is today.

According to Elon Musk, the principle of free speech is actually quite simple. "Is it possible for someone you don't like to be able to talk about something you don't like? If so, then we have freedom of speech," he continued.

If a tweet is controversial, it probably shouldn't be promoted by Twitter. However, deleting a tweet must be done with extreme care, as is permanent blocking.

On the other hand, Musk admits that even if he could eventually acquire Twitter, there could still be mistakes. "I think everyone will still blame me for everything. If I acquired Twitter and something went wrong, it was my fault, 100%. I think there will be some errors," he added.

Musk also admitted that he was pessimistic that his offer would be accepted by Twitter, but admitted that he already had a plan B. However, Elon Musk did not explain what he meant by plan B.
