Epic Games Gets USD 2 billion Fund Injection for Metaverse

Epic Games plans to develop the metaverse received support in the form of an injection of funds amounting to USD 2 billion.

According to Epic, the funds will be used to accelerate Epic's vision of building the metaverse and supporting its growth. The funding itself comes from a number of parties, including Sony and KIrkBI, an investment group led by the Kirk Kristiansen family.

Kirk Kristiansen is the founder of the Lego Group, which last week announced plans to partner with Epic to work on the metaverse. In the information distributed, Sony and KIrkBI each contributed USD 1 billion in the funding.

For Sony, this is not the first time they have injected funds into Epic. Previously, they were recorded to have deposited funds several times, the last time the value was USD 200 million, which was injected with a number of other investors with a total value of USD 1 billion.

"This investment will accelerate our work in building the metaverse and creating a space where players can have fun with friends, companies can create creative and immersive experiences, and creators can build communities and thrive," said Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney.

However, so far the metaverse is still limited in the form of ideas in the heads of technology company CEOs. But for Epic, it seems that the closest thing that can be extended to the metaverse so far is Fortnite, one of their flagship games.

An example is by holding various virtual events in the game such as music concerts and the like. But it could also be that Epic will put forward the metaverse as a collaboration with Lego.

As previously reported, Epic Games and Lego announced this long-term partnership. Its main goal is to create a safer and more fun virtual environment for families and children of all ages.

There is no more detailed information about this, and so far it has only been revealed that they will provide tools for children, which allow them to create and develop 'worlds' in a safe environment.
