Google has implemented a feature that requires app developers to notify what data is being retrieved from the user.
From now on, Android users can view specific information about data collection by apps through the Google Play Store.
Reported by us from Digital Trends, Thursday (28/4/2022) this data can be accessed on the Google Play Store via the 'Data Safety' tab which is contained in the information section of each application.
With Google's announcement that the feature is starting to roll out, Google stressed that not all apps will display what data they collect from users.
Accordingly, Google gave app makers until July 20, 2022 to provide privacy information to the Google Play Store. Features like this are rolled out in stages.
It is likely that applications that retrieve a lot of data from users such as social media applications will take longer to upload information due to the large amount of data collected, compared to offline games.
The 'Data Safety' tab in the Google Play Store aims to provide important information for Android users who are concerned about collecting data from their platform.
Google reveals the information that apps collect in five main categories:
1. If the application collects data, how, what will happen.
2. If the app shares data with third parties.
3. What security measures does the app developer have in place to protect the data to be collected and whether the app owner can request deletion of the data.
4. Apps must follow Google Play's family policy to protect information about children.
5. If the application security measures meet the Mobile Application Security Verification Standard.
This feature has been around for a long time, as Google previously announced its plans to get Android owners more involved with their data collection in May 2021.
This feature is similar to the App Privacy section of the iOS App Store which requires developers to share their data collection information.
Even though the policies of the two app stores are different, the advantage of this feature for users is that they can check what data is granted and what permissions to access.
