Every Muslim around the world observes the fast with the same number of days, which is for one whole month. However, even though the number of days is the same, Muslims from different countries observe different fasting durations each day.

The difference in the time spent by each Muslim in their respective countries is due to the reference time of fasting is from sunrise to sunset. We know that some countries have different daylight hours, some are short and some are long.

Iceland


In 2022, Muslims in Iceland topped the list of countries with the longest fasting time, which is around 16 hours and 50 minutes.


As a country located in the northernmost part of the earth, it is natural that Iceland has a longer day than night.


Even in 2018, Iceland became one of the countries with the longest fasting time record, which was 22 hours. Who, here, still likes to complain about waiting for iftar time?


Greenland


By 2022, it is estimated that Muslims in Greenland will fast for 16 to 17 hours every day. This is still nothing compared to the fasting time in 2021 which reaches 20 hours per day.

Similar to the two previous countries, Poland, which is famous for Warsaw—listed in a UNESCO World Heritage Site—also has the longest fasting time, which is 16 to 17 hours a day.

Britain is again in the list of countries with the longest fasting time in the world, with a duration of 16 to 17 hours per day. Even so, the UK has experienced more extreme conditions, namely in 2014 and 2017 which required Muslims to fast for up to 19 hours per day.
