4. 12 Years a Slave (2013)
12 Years A Slave is a biopic that won an Oscar for Best Picture. The film which was released in 2013 was directed by Steve McQueen and Chiwetel Ejiofor played the main role.
The film is adapted from the memoir of the same name written by David Wilson. Set in 1841, the film tells the story of Solomon Northup, a free African-American man born in New York, who is kidnapped in Washington by two con artists and sold into slavery. Nortup was then employed on a plantation in the state of Louisiana for 12 years before being released.
5. The Theory of Everything (2014)
The Theory of Everything is one of the best biopic films according to Movieweb. This romantic drama genre film was directed by James Marsh with Eddie Redmayne as the main character. The film received 5 Oscar nominations including Best Picture and won 1 Oscar in the Best Actor category for Eddie Redmayne.
The Theory of Everything is based on the memoir Traveling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen, written by Jane Hawking. This film depicts the relationship of the famous physicist, Stephen Hawking with his ex-wife, Jane Hawking. The film also depicts Stephen's life from his youth, his success in physics and the diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
