When we get to know someone better, we usually call them by short names or nicknames. The same goes for Meta employees to their bosses.
Launching Money Control, Monday (11/4/2022) Meta employees apparently referred to Mark Zuckerberg as 'The Eye of Sauron' or better known as 'The all seeing eye' in the world of 'Lord of the Rings' by JRR Tolkien . Why is it called that?
During an appearance on The Tim Ferriss Show, the tech billionaire revealed that his employees at Meta headquarters call him Mata Sauron in a 'loving' sense. The reason Zuckerberg is called Sauron's Eyes, employees actually refers to how focused their boss is when it comes to a job. Zuckerberg's eyes can make employees 'burn' enthusiasm.
"Sometimes they compare my attention level to the Eye of Sauron. They're like saying that you have an endless amount of energy to get things done," Zuckerberg said.
The original Eye of Sauron is a giant eye that watches in all directions in Lord of the Rings. He could see in all directions and had a terrifying gaze.
However, Zuckerberg only chose to focus on seeing the positive side of the nickname he got from his employees.
Not only Zuckerberg, employees at Meta also have nicknames. Previously called 'Facebookers', employees are now called 'Metamates'. There is also a rule that says employees must put the company first (Meta), followed by colleagues (metamates), and finally the individual (me).
In an internal company meeting, Mark Zuckerberg also said that Meta is now carrying 'Move fast together' as the company's slogan. Previously they used the legendary 'Move fast and break things' slogan, before changing it to 'Move fast'.
