My God, This Professor Wants To Blow Up The Moon!

A mathematics professor at Iowa State University wants to blow up the Moon. He believes a number of problems on Earth can be solved that way. He wrote about this theory in a college newspaper, known as the Moonless Earth Theory, published in 1991.

Alexander Abian is the professor who introduced this theory. He even detailed how humans could destroy the Moon.

"Dig a big hole deep, put an atomic bomb," said the Abian report, written by Science Alert. After the atomic bomb is planted, humans on Earth just detonate the bomb with a denator controlled from Earth.

Why did you have to blow up the Moon? According to Abian, it will be a way to moderate the weather. He imagined the Earth without the Moon would be more stable, he mentioned a 21,000 year cycle that changes the Earth's tilt. That way, it would eliminate topical weather events like hurricanes, floods, wildfires, and blizzards -- at least that's what he believes.

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem like a good idea. By detonating an object near the closest planet to us, it is possible to produce a fairly large near-Earth object, namely a piece of the Moon that will hit Earth. It can take all life away.

Nevertheless, Abian is still enthusiastic about introducing his idea to the public. He even admitted that he didn't really care about comments from haters.

"The critics who say, 'Get rid of the Abian idea' are very close to those who reject Galileo," he said.
