Millennials & Gen Z Prefer Unemployment Than Unhappy At Work


Times have changed, now millennials and generation Z (gen Z) don't have the same priorities and expectations as older people when it comes to professional careers. They do not make work the main focus and do not place work as the center of their lives.


The Randstad, an employment agency from the United States (US), asked 35,000 people from 34 countries about their views on the world of work. The researchers found that a third of 18-35 year olds were looking for work. Despite this precarious situation, they are not willing to compromise in pursuit of a career.


As a result, 40 percent of Gen Z and 38 percent of millennials said they would rather be unemployed than be stuck in a job that makes them unhappy. In comparison, only 25 percent of baby boomers said they were willing to do the same.



"Young people want to bring their whole selves to work, which is reflected in their determination not to compromise their personal values ​​when choosing a boss," said Randstad CEO Sander van't Noordende.


"Our research shows increasing expectations from businesses to take a stand on social and environmental issues... Companies that fail to do so face an increasingly difficult struggle when it comes to recruiting and retaining talent," he added.
