Entering the middle of the holy month of Ramadan, maintaining a healthy body is a challenge in itself. Decreased stamina during fasting often triggers the emergence of health problems such as indigestion and heartburn.

Sprue is a health problem that many complaints during the fasting month. Thrush has the potential to appear when we fast due to dental and oral health which often goes unnoticed.

Here are some of the causes of canker sores during fasting. Come on!


1. Bacteria in the Oral Cavity


When fasting, lack of fluid intake will cause the mouth to become dry. In this condition, bacteria and fungi will multiply faster. Bacteria in the oral cavity is what will then trigger the emergence of canker sores.


Especially when fasting, we have to be extra in maintaining the cleanliness of the oral cavity. The trick is to brush your teeth more often, at least 3 times a day after breaking the fast, at night before going to bed and after sahur. Gargling salt water can also prevent canker sores caused by bacteria in the mouth.


2. Dry Lips


It is natural that the lips tend to be drier when we fast. Because we will lack fluids during the day which then triggers internal heat. In this condition, dry lips will be very vulnerable and easily injured.


To prevent and treat canker sores due to dry lips, pay attention to your fluid intake. Make sure you drink water according to the recommended portion of 2 liters or 8 glasses at breaking the fast, at night, and at dawn.


3. Lack of Vitamins


dr. Ratu also said that lack of vitamins is the cause of canker sores which often occurs when we fast. Lack of vitamins C, E, and iron is thought to be a factor in canker sores.


To prevent this, watch your food intake. Make sure the body's nutritional needs are met properly at dawn and iftar. dr. Ratu recommends increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables because they contain lots of vitamins.



4. Extreme Diet


Thrush during fasting can arise due to changes in eating and drinking habits. Without realizing it we also often consume a lot of extreme combinations.


Extreme eating patterns such as consuming hot, cold, spicy, and sour foods in close proximity will trigger inflammation. Thus increasing the risk of heartburn and canker sores.


Therefore, we must  avoid foods that have a strong taste.


Foods that are extreme can make the lining of the oral cavity more susceptible to canker sores after a dry day from not eating anything.
