Popular from Twitter, Elon Musk mocks Donald Trump's Social Truth

Truth Social is growing in popularity, even overtaking Twitter. Elon Musk immediately made a mockery of Donald Trump's social media.

The Truth Social app currently leads the Top Chart in the Apple Store, at least in the United States market. In the screenshot shared by Elon Musk, Truth Social was the most downloaded, followed by Twitter and TikTok.

Prior to Musk's deal to buy Twitter, Truth Social was ranked 52nd. While Twitter is at number 39.

Between April 18 and 25, Truth Social's downloads hit 75,000, registering a 150% increase. Since its launch in February this year, Trump's social media has been downloaded about 1.4 million times.

The popularity of Truth Social seems to have bothered the Tesla boss as well as SpaceX. In a tweet, Musk suggested his social media rival should consider a name change.

"Truth Social (terrible name) exists because Twitter censors free speech," Musk tweeted. "Should be called Trumpet!"

Should be called Trumpet instead!

The Twitter purchase deal ostensibly puts Musk in direct competition with Trump's platform, which has positioned itself as a social media alternative and a haven for conservatives facing censorship on platforms controlled by Big Tech.

The deal has also fueled speculation that he may decide to reactivate Trump's account once he formally takes over the company. Trump had nearly 90 million followers before he was permanently banned from Twitter and other social media platforms after his supporters participated in the January 6 riots in the Capitol.

But Trump made it clear that he would not return to Twitter even if his account was reinstated. He said he would continue to use Truth social.

"I don't use Twitter, I will stick with Truth. I hope Elon buys Twitter because he will make improvements and he is a good person, but I will stick with Truth," he said.

Trump Social officially launched in March after beta testing. "We received millions of people, and what we found was the response on Truth was much better than on Twitter," Trump said. "Twitter has bots and fake accounts, and we're doing everything we can."
