The Longest and Shortest Fasting Time in the World in 2022

The month of Ramadan is lived differently by Muslims on planet Earth. Some fast longer and some shorter. This is why.

Reporting from Al Jazeera, Friday (4/15/2022) Muslim fasting varies in duration depending on geographical position, season and sun. According to the rules of the Shari'a, fasting begins before dawn until sunset.

The Earth's revolution around the sun makes the northern and southern regions of the Earth experience 4 seasons in reverse. The duration of the day in summer is much longer than the duration of the day in winter. If it's summer on the North Earth, then on the South Earth it's winter and vice versa. Meanwhile, those who live at the equator get relatively stable solar duration.

Because Ramadan follows the Hijri calendar, it always advances 10-12 days each year against the Gregorian calendar. That is why, Ramadan fasting can be experienced in different seasons as long as it is slowly with a 33 year cycle returning to the same time.

For 2022, Ramadan will occur in April where the northern Earth is in spring and the southern Earth is in autumn. Muslims on the north side of the Earth, fast longer than those in the south of the Earth.
