Last year, former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey caused a stir after selling his first tweet as an NFT for $2.9 million. The NFT buyer is now reselling the tweet, but the offer received is much lower than the purchase price.
The buyer is Sina Estavi, a crypto entrepreneur based in Malaysia. After purchasing Dorsey's tweet as an NFT in May 2021, Estavi announced that it would sell the digital asset via the OpenSea platform.
He has pledged to donate 50% of the proceeds - which he estimates to be USD 25 million or more - to the charity GiveDirectly. But it seems Estavi's expectations are a little too high.
This is because the highest bid received by NFT was USD 6,200, or only 0.2% of the purchase price. But Estavi admitted he had received an offer of up to USD 10 million.
After accepting an offer at a much lower price, Estavi later said he would probably cancel the sale of the NFT, unless he received a high offer.
"Last year, when I paid for this NFT, few people even heard of the name NFT. Now I say this NFT is the Mona Lisa of the digital world. There is only one and no one is the same," said Estavi, as quoted by the BBC, Friday (15/4/2022).
"A few years later, people will realize the value of this NFT. Remember that," he continued.
Estavi bought the NFT of Dorsey's first tweet via an online platform called Valuables. As a buyer, Estavi received a certificate digitally signed and verified by Dorsey, as well as the metadata of the original tweet.
It is not known why Estavi sold the NFT. Although still looking for a buyer, Estavi said he would not accept just anyone's offer.
"I think the value of this NFT is much greater than you can imagine and whoever wants to buy it should be worth it," said Estavi.
"I think someone like Elon Musk deserves this NFT," he concluded.
