Why Are You Sleepy All Day During Fasting? Turns out this is the reason!

The biggest challenge you face during fasting may not only be holding back thirst and hunger. But you also have to struggle with drowsiness that attacks throughout the day.

Especially those of you who still have to work full time in the office, usually feel that productivity is reduced because of the drowsiness that strikes on the sidelines of a lot of work.

You are certainly curious about the reason behind the sleepiness that often hits when fasting. It turns out that this is the reason:

Changes in Blood Sugar Levels

When fasting, when we do not get food and drink intake for hours, automatically there is a decrease in blood sugar levels. Launching from the Verywell Health page, changes in blood sugar levels limit the body's ability to transport energy to its cells, making you tired and sleepy.

So it can be said, sleepy while fasting is quite normal. But what might be quite detrimental is when you also have difficulty concentrating so that it hinders work.

Changed Sleep Patterns

During Ramadan, of course there are habits that change, one of which is sleep patterns. This is also one of the factors why you are easily sleepy during the day while fasting in Ramadan.

According to the journal written by Ahmad S. Bahammam and published in Research Gate, working hours will be shorter in a country where the majority of the population is Muslim. As if the usual working hours start at 07.00, then during the fasting month the working hours start at 08.00 or adjust the office policy.

This policy has an effect on sleep patterns, from which you usually wake up at 05.00 then you will sleep again until 06.00 even at 07.00.

Not only that, apart from waking up late, you may also sleep late due to the many Ramadan night activities including late opening hours for shops, shopping centers, and restaurants, as well as broadcasting interesting TV programs until late at night.

Well, the solution that you can apply so you don't get sleepy all day, of course, is to keep consuming high-nutrient foods at iftar and suhoor. In addition, don't forget to improve your sleep pattern by not going to bed late and not waking up late.
