Why in Tasmania Faster and Longer in Norway?

The duration of fasting between countries has differences. We alone ranged from 12-13 hours. Meanwhile, there are other countries that can fast or even take a longer time to break the fast.

One of the fastest was in Tasmania, Australia and the longest in Norway. So, what makes fasting longer in Norway and faster in Tasmania? we had a chance to talk with Imran Aryan Kamil, a physics major at the University of Tasmania (UTAS) about this.

Described by Imran, the Earth rotates not perpendicularly, plus the effect of the Earth's rotation on the Sun, this all affects the duration of the amount of sunlight that a country gets every month. That's what makes seasons all over the region -- spring, fall, summer and winter.

"Fasting is based on the position of the Sun and Moon, right, so the benchmark is per region, and in Australia, if you can get the sun to rise at this hour and set at this hour, the fasting is the same (duration). less it seems, and the faster the fast," said Imran. Fasting in Australia for the record ranges from 12 hours.

Meanwhile, why Norway can fast longer, we directly asked Genesia Wahyu Saputro, a master's student in the Project Management program, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

"Continuing Imran's explanation, if the Earth doesn't rotate perpendicularly. So the northern part is more directed towards the sun. Therefore, in Norway, especially during summer like this, this part is exposed to more sunlight and the fast is longer, " said the man who is familiarly called Gene.

In fact, in some areas near the poles, the Sun can always be seen at some time in the summer. This is known as the Midnight Sun phenomenon, where the Sun does not go down or set.
