After years of being synonymous with Huawei, Leica seems to have really moved on to Xiaomi, which is revealed by a line of code in the Chinese version of the MIUI ROM.
The combination of Huawei and Leica is perhaps a successful example of collaboration between a mobile phone brand and a camera, because the cameras in a number of Huawei's flagship phones have succeeded in producing stunning photos.
However, as the pressure for Huawei from the US government has not subsided, it seems that Leica has no choice but to look for other mobile phone manufacturers to work with.
Well, rumors of a collaboration between Leica and Xiaomi have actually been circulating for a long time. Namely, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra camera module will be equipped with the Leica brand, but until now there has been no clearer information about this news.
But now, there is little information to support these rumors. That is a series of codes in the Gallery Editor application in the Chinese version of the MIUI ROM, which has a direct reference to Leica.
The series of codes shows the filters that can be used when editing photos and videos. This means that - if true - besides having Leica-labeled phones, maybe later there will be a Leica-labeled filter on Xiaomi phones, although the latter is actually nothing special, because it has often been done by other mobile phone manufacturers.
However, keep in mind that this code line is not currently implemented. So it seems that it is still limited to preparations before the collaboration between Leica and Xiaomi is inaugurated, as quoted by us from GSM Arena, Wednesday (30/3/2022).
It is not clear how close the cooperation between the two will be. It could be simply embedding the Leica logo on the phone and adding a Leica-inspired filter, or maybe Leica really stepped in to improve the camera quality on the Xiaomi 12 Ultra (?) as was the case before on Huawei.
