Game developer from Bandung, Agate, announced the appointment of a new strategic advisor filled by the CEO and Co-founder of an educational platform in the field of finance and investment in Livestock Money, Raymond Chin.
Raymond's capability as a businessman and gamer is expected to be able to encourage Agate's mission to develop the game industry and local developers in controlling market share.
The appointment of Raymond will support the company's commitment in 3 ways, namely; improving the quality of resources, developing an ecosystem for local developers, and easy access to enter the global market.
"Since the pandemic, the game industry around the world has continued to show a positive trend. In Indonesia alone, the value of the game industry in 2021 will reach USD 1.9 billion. This momentum needs to be put to good use and Raymond is the right person to complete the company's wheels for the sake of towards the direction we want to achieve together," said Agate International CEO and Co-founder, Arief Widhiyasa in a statement received by us.
According to data from Newzoo in 2021, Indonesia is one of the countries with the fastest growing game industry in terms of market consumption, which was recorded at USD 1.92 billion.
This makes Indonesia the country with the fastest growing market in Southeast Asia. However, this growth is inversely proportional to funding for locally produced games. As a result, only 0.5% of the market share is controlled by local developers.
This is due to the relatively small number of game companies and game creators' resources. This is where Raymond and the board of directors of Agate are expected to be able to fill the gap in resource competence and support for local developers who are pioneering the way.
In addition, Raymond is expected to be involved in the development of Agate's products, which are currently divided into consumer games and game-based solutions.
In carrying out his duties as a strategic advisor, Raymond will bring the perspective of global talent in training and improving local developer resources, to be directly involved in the initial funding of game production with international standards.
"Reflecting on Vietnam, there are more than 150 game companies with more than 20 thousand employees. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, there are only around 2,000 game workers out of a total of 270 Indonesians. Lack of quality talent and the existence of a game ecosystem. being supportive and open to new talent is the main key for the growth of the local game industry so that it can continue to advance and compete in the global market," said Raymond.
Raymond is optimistic that his experience as a serial entrepreneur in Jakarta and Singapore can bring new perspectives and have an impact on the company. In the future, Raymond targets to bring Agate's games to the Southeast Asian, American and European markets.
