Apple was sued by the parents of a teenager from Texas, this is because one of the features of Apple products, namely AirPods, has damaged the child's ears.
Launching from Gizmochina, Thursday (19/5/2022) this 12-year-old boy who has not been named is reported to have suffered damage to his eardrums after receiving loud noises from the Amber Alert feature on his AirPods.
It is known that the Amber Alert feature is one of the alert features that is automatically sent to the iPhone, alerting residents regarding an emergency child abduction.
This incident occurred in 2020 where the boy with the initials BG was watching Netflix movies on his iPhone while using AirPods. At that time, the Amber Alert feature of his smartphone beeped loudly through the AirPods, reportedly damaging the eardrum.
A court document details how the sound ripped BG's eardrum and damaged his cochlea resulting in him having permanent hearing loss in one ear and suffering from several health conditions since the incident.
BG's lawsuit is the result of the AirPods not being able to automatically lower the volume for alerts. The lawsuit also claims that Apple did not warn users about potential hearing damage.
The plaintiffs are seeking damages from Apple, they claim Apple's behavior is unacceptable and the lawsuit should be a deterrent effect for others. It is not clear when this lawsuit was settled and how it developed, Apple itself has not provided a response.
