Every day there are just creepy stories when credit card numbers and CVVs are leaked into the web arena causing losses to the holder. Too much data is leaked now so it is very difficult to do an examination of whether personal data is among those affected.
In Google I/O a new feature on Chrome was announced where this web browser can generate virtual credit card numbers complete with CVV which is also virtual. When the actual card information is entered, Chrome will provide a virtual card number suggestion generated and then used to complete the online payment.
Purchases can still be made as usual with charges levied on the actual card after verification is done. With this feature if virtual card numbers are leaked into the web arena, no worries they will be charged.
The feature will be introduced to Visa card users in the United States first before support for credit cards and other markets is developed in the future.
