You may have been confused when starting a piece of writing and trying to type anything that came to mind to provoke ideas. But apparently, there is one word that, if repeated, can make Google Docs error.
According to Google's support page, typing the rarely used "and" a few times at the beginning of a document is enough to stop the app completely.
The defect was discovered by Pat Needham. He posted his findings on the Google Docs Editors Help forum. Needham said, typing "And. and. and. and. and." to a new document will cause Google Docs to crash.
Quoted from TechRadar, Sunday (8/5/2022) Google Docs will display the message "Something went wrong" and a pop-up that says "unable to load file". Reloading the document seems to cause the same problem, and instead forces the user to quit Google Docs completely.
Needham said that he encountered this problem while using the Google Chrome browser, with documents from three separate Google accounts, namely a personal account, G Suite Basic, and a company account. All of them had the same problem.
A Google employee replied to Needham's comments saying Google was aware of the issue and was working on a fix immediately. "Thanks for reporting this problem and letting us know. We'll update you!" he wrote.
Currently, the issue appears to have been fixed so the reported error doesn't occur again. Ironically, this news comes shortly after Google Docs launched a number of new features to help with writing, including synonym suggestions and sentence structures that make it easier for users to improve the quality of their writing.
This feature will also flag 'inappropriate' language, as well as examples of some active sentences that will sound better than using passive ones.
