A few months ago Instagram released the Avatar feature in a limited number of countries. Now this feature is available even though it has not been spread to all users evenly.
This feature was first introduced by the Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri in early February. In the video, Mosseri says Avatar will be the key to introducing a user's identity in the metaverse.
"The internet will evolve into a more immersive experience, something we call the metaverse," Mosseri said in his video on Instagram, as quoted by us, Monday (16/5/2022).
"And if you want to be in this virtual world, your identity must be shown. And that's where Avatar comes in. It will be your visual representation and more dynamic than a profile," he continued.
Avatars on Instagram have a three-dimensional appearance and can be personalized according to the user's wishes. It looks more or less like the Memoji on the iPhone or the AR Emoji on the Samsung phone.
Instagram users are free to design their Avatar to match their physical appearance or to reflect their persona online. Interestingly, the personalization options offered are quite inclusive, as can be seen from the presence of bindi options and hearing aids.
The form of personalization is quite basic but quite diverse, ranging from skin color, hair, clothes, accessories, and others. Oh yes, Instagram does not provide a gender choice when creating an avatar, but you can create an avatar according to your gender by taking advantage of the existing customization options.
Instagram avatars can also be used to decorate Stories or be shared via DM. Mosseri said Avatar Instagram can be integrated with other Meta services, namely Facebook and Messenger.
It should be noted that the official Instagram site says the Avatar feature is not yet available in Indonesia. But according to our monitoring, there are already several accounts that can access this feature, so it may be being rolled out gradually.
Without further ado, here's how to create an Instagram Avatar to share in Stories and DMs:
Open the Instagram app then go to Profile by tapping the tab in the lower right corner
Tap the menu in the upper right corner then select Settings
After that select the Account option, then Avatar
Or you can also open Instagram Story, then enter the sticker page and select Avatar
Tap Get Started to get started. You can directly choose the hairstyle, face shape, clothes, and others as you wish. Don't forget to customize the color too
Once you are satisfied with your avatar, tap the Done button in the upper right corner
Instagram will show you the Avatar you created and ask if you want to integrate it into Facebook or Messenger. Tap Next to confirm and complete the Avatar creation process

To add an Avatar in Instagram Stories, simply go to the sticker menu and select Avatar. To share it via DM, select the contact you want to message, then tap the sticker icon in the lower right corner, and select Avatar.
