Hundreds of Workers Break through COVID Blockade Fence at MacBook Factory

A viral video on Twitter shows a horror scene at a MacBook factory in China. Hundreds of workers were seen breaking through the COVID-19 blockade installed at the factory.

The incident occurred at Quanta Comp's MacBook factory located in Shanghai. Not only breaking through, there were physical clashes between workers and the disease control/protection team.

According to a report by the daily Economy Taiwan, hundreds of MacBook workers climbed over barriers that kept them inside the factory. It happened when workers who were on break were not allowed to return to the dorms to rest.

Quanta employees confirmed the clash took place last Thursday night, while the company provided comment. One worker said they were concerned about further tightening as there were positive cases of COVID on campus. The government takes a central role in managing factory operations.

As is known, Shanghai is currently in lockdown due to an increase in COVID-19 cases. And the Quanta factory that produces MacBooks chooses to keep operating by implementing a very strict isolation system.

The Chinese government itself does allow factories to continue operating to meet production. However, it is required to apply a strict bubble system so that there is no infection in workers.

Workers are required to live in dormitories without anyone being allowed to enter or leave the facility for a month or until the lockdown ends.

Apple hopes this approach can allow them to keep production of the iPhone 14. However, the incident that occurred at the Quanta factory made that hope dashed, as reported by 9to5Mac, Sunday (8/5/2022).
