Khairy - Government Reviews Ban On Brand Display On Tobacco Products

The government is serious about banning the sale of tobacco products to Malaysians born after 2005. This drastic measure is taken to ensure that future generations will not be plagued by health problems due to the use of tobacco products such as cigarettes.

Today Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the government was looking into banning brand display on tobacco products sold. On the other hand, the packaging on the cigarette box just uses a generic design. This is a move that was once proposed in the United Kingdom a few years ago.

If it is to be enforced, it will be included in the amendment to the Tobacco Control Act which will also ban the purchase of tobacco products by those born after 2005.
