After Leica and Xiaomi announced their long-term partnership, Huawei also spoke about the brand that is identical to its flagship HP line.
Huawei confirmed that its collaboration with Leica had ended on March 31. "We can confirm that the cooperation between the two companies (Huawei and Leica) ends on March 31," said a Huawei spokesman when answering questions from the Android Authority, Tuesday (24/5/2022).
In other words, the Huawei P50 series, including the P50 Pro which was released in Indonesia some time ago, is Huawei's last cellphone that carries the Leica name. So, the Mate 50 series which will be released (supposedly) will no longer carry the Leica name.
Leica is a premium camera brand that is synonymous with Huawei. The two have worked together since 2016 when Huawei released the P9 series, which was then continued with the Mate 9, and so on.
The collaboration between the two is carried out in camera settings, color modes, portraits, and various other aspects of the cameras used in the P and Mate series phones, which is a selling point in itself, because the photos taken from cellphones in both series are always amazing at that time. .
However, this sweet relationship between Huawei and Leica was later "disturbed" by various sanctions imposed by the United States government, which caused various problems for Huawei.
Including supply problems for various components for mobile phones, and most importantly, Huawei can no longer use Google Mobile Services which causes them to have to create Huawei Mobile Services.
And now, Leica has finally moved to another heart, which was revealed by Xiaomi's announcement of its collaboration with Leica. Xiaomi and Leica are jointly developing a new flagship phone that will be released in July 2022.
In their official statement, Xiaomi and Leica said both companies share the same idea about mobile imaging and are both excited to take mobile photography to the next level.
"This collaboration will be a great boost for Xiaomi's strategy in photo imaging. Through this collaboration, things such as optical design, aesthetic orientation, innovative technology, product philosophy and photo imaging preferences of the two parties will bring about great collaboration and fusion, " said the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group, Lei Jun, in a statement received by us.
"Leica and Xiaomi are global premium brands and through this in-depth collaboration process, the two parties have succeeded in bringing about a new era of mobile photography. We believe the presence of this jointly developed flagship smartphone product will be a breakthrough that improves both companies. We are committed to bringing stunning image quality, classic Leica aesthetics, limitless creativity, and opening up a new era for consumers of mobile photography." said CEO of Leica Camera AG, Matthias Harsch, in the same statement.
