Many countries have just started implementing 5G, Samsung is already showing off 6G technology. Through the Samsung 6G Forum (S6GF), the South Korean electronics giant showed a picture of future technology.

"We envision that 6G will provide the ultimate experience for people and everything through the next level of hyper-connectivity, and this idea serves as the foundation of our 6G vision," said Sebastian Seung, President and Head of Samsung Research 1 .

"We believe that this is the right time to start preparing for 6G. Shaping 6G will take many years, as we have seen with previous generations, and will require a lot of discussion and collaboration among players in industry and academia."

The Samsung 6G Forum is divided into two sessions. Each session consists of presentations by experts from academia and industry specializing in next generation communication technologies, followed by panel discussions.

The first session took the theme '6G Air Interface.' In this session, Jeffrey Andrews, professor at the University of Texas at Austin, gave a keynote address, entitled Deep Learning in the 6G Air Interface, highlighting that deep learning (DL) will be the key technology underlying 6G, which could provide important advances in many areas. the air interface layer.

Following the keynote address, Charlie Zhang, Senior Vice President (SVP) at Samsung Research America, Takehiro Nakamura, SVP and General Manager at NTT Docomo, and John Smee, SVP of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. present in-depth expert talks.

SVP Charlie Zhang of Samsung Research America made a presentation on Radio Technology Evolution for Beyond 5G and 6G. He pointed out that while 6G technology is still in its infancy, several emerging directions are taking shape and gaining momentum within academia and industry alike, including new spectrum support such as upper mid-band in the 7-24 GHz and terahertz (THZ) bands. , new antenna technology, duplex technology evolution and network topology, spectrum sharing, artificial intelligence (AI) as the original part of protocol design, etc.

Meanwhile SVP Takehiro Nakamura of NTT Docomo spoke about the 'evolution of 5G and 6G,' highlighting the acceleration of technology and service-focused research for the evolution of 5G and 6G worldwide. While SVP John Smee of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. spoke about Driving Air Interface Innovation Toward 6G, emphasizing advanced wireless research and development along multiple vectors that will bring about disruptive innovation and push technology boundaries to enable new and enhanced user experiences with 6G.

After the presentation, Juho Lee, Fellow at Samsung Research, led a panel discussion on 6G RAN technology. After that, Sunghyun Choi, Executive Vice President (EVP) and Head of Advanced Communications Research Center at Samsung Research, shared Samsung's progress in 6G research along with a demo video.
