Microsoft once dominated the web browser market through Internet Explorer. However, with the advent of the modern web era, Internet Explorer is seen to be slow to adapt, making the Chrome web browser outperform it, and now holds a large majority of the web browser market.
However, Microsoft did not give up. Microsoft is already branding their web browser into Microsoft Edge, in addition to using a web browser engine like Chrome-and coming up with more frequent updates, as well as integration of new functions.
Microsoft's move is seen to have begun to bear fruit. Most recently, through StatCounter data, it is seen that Microsoft Edge now has a 10% stake in the desktop web browser market - which is one of the good achievements for Microsoft.
From the published data, Chrome still holds the majority of the market with 66%stake, while Edge is in second place with 10%, Safari is in third place with 9.6%.
With this latest development, it will be interesting to see what the next step is in these web browsers continue to attract users to use their offerings.
