Scientists have found debris that looks like a yellow brick road in the Pacific Ocean. Netizens have speculated as the road to Atlantis, the legendary city first put forward by the philosopher Plato.
Located north of the Island of Hawaii, this find was obtained from the exploration of the Nautilus in the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument (PMNM) region.
PMNM is one of the largest marine protected areas in the world. This is larger than all the national parks in the United States combined. Scientists have only explored about 3% of the ocean floor.
Researchers at the Ocean Exploration Trust have finally entered more than 3,000 meters below the sea. Anyone can watch this exploration on YouTube. Throughout the day each day, the researchers provided live recordings.
"This is the road to Atlantis," a researcher on the radio can be heard exclaiming.
"Are you kidding? This is crazy," said another.
Launching Science Alert, Monday (9/5/2022) the crack in what looks like a yellow brick road does not appear to be the road to Atlantis. It could be, it is volcanic rock that has cracked in such a way that it looks very similar to brick.
"The unique 90-degree crack is likely related to the heating and cooling stresses of multiple eruptions at these toasted margins," the YouTube video captions.
