Starting with the design, the 6.7-inch screen used on this device is as large as the previous model. Then, no significant changes were also made to the front panel of the device, where the use of a double-curved screen on the side was maintained. This is to allow the device to seem to have a small bezel construction. To be honest, it looks stylish, but can be described as less practical. Especially when this smart device is used to watch video content with full screen display. The problem of the screen overflowing to the side will occur, resulting in a feeling of discomfort for some parties.

Next, it also supports a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate for battery saving. It will be automatically adjusted according to the current content. Optionally, you can also change it to 60Hz statically via settings. The use of an AMOLED type panel also makes it a really beautiful screen. Good color processing and quite vibrant turns out to evoke a satisfying feel especially used for watching video content. Outdoor use also does not pose extreme issues, even the content on the screen can be read very well.

The Oppo Find X5 Pro uses a beautiful ceramic -based body. According to Oppo, the ceramic material used is twice as strong as conventional glass. At the same time, its rear panel also has the ability to control heat issues well to allow it to be used without problems.

There are two color options available such as Glaze Black and Ceramic White which are both elegant enough to own. The construction of the rear camera still retains the design of a Find X3 Pro but the tri-camera system is used for this time. It looks interesting because the camera hump is not as high as it is on a number of devices on the market today.

The right side houses the power button, while the left side has the volume up button. Next, the device also uses a USB-C connection port that can be found on the bottom side along with speakers and a hole for a microphone.

For the record, the Oppo Find X5 Pro does not include a 3.5mm audio jack the same as what Oppo did on previous models. Other supporting specs include a built-in on-screen fingerprint scanner with fairly fast performance. Later, it also comes with an IP68 waterproof rating as an added protection.

Performance & Operating System

Next, the Oppo Find X5 Pro uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip with 12GB of RAM memory and 256GB of internal storage. This is a pretty good combination for a flagship device, as well as being able to meet the needs of most users today. No negative comments can be given, we just have to say the Oppo Find X5 Pro does not support additional slots using microSD. In the Geekbench test, the device recorded a score collection of 962/2692 points.

How about using it in the real world? As we said, this is a landmark device. We have to admit, no extreme problems can be given. It offers extremely smooth scrolling especially when the 120Hz screen mode is activated and many applications can be launched simultaneously due to ample RAM support. Also complementing this device is the RAM Extension feature reaching 7GB of RAM which makes the memory capacity can reach 19GB of RAM in total. The hot issue still exists for some situations but it is not so uncomfortable as experienced during previous Realme GT 2 Pro reviews.

Next, Android 12 with the corresponding ColorOS12.1 launcher is used. No sudden changes otherwise the interface looks neat with a pretty minimalist touch. It also uses icons as well as interesting color elements to look at. Oppo also allows you to do costumes for some features such as the Always-On-Display function with an all-new pattern. Then, it also supports screen color settings that suit the user’s eyes. Also included is a function to create a 3D avatar animation called omoji and some features as below:

Flexible Windows - Experience more efficient multitask through floating windows.

Quick Return-Quick access to return to any application by tapping on the return window.

Quick Launch - Quick access to frequently used applications or functions.

Smart Sidebar - Activate the sidebar to allow apps to launch quickly.

Kid Space-Use will be safer for children to access.

Simple Mode - Text & icons will be larger. Later, the audio will also sound louder when this mode is activated.

Commenting on telephony capabilities, no issues were found to get a stable 4G signal. At the same time, the experience of calls made and received is also good. It is clear enough to be heard clearly and vividly. Next, the GPS capability is also good with the ability to track and lock the location well.

Camera Capabilities

Basically, Oppo has put the Find X5 Pro as a photography device. No other microscope camera like the Find X3 Pro before remains the better camera system capabilities come with its own NPU -based chip known as MariSilicon X. In addition, Oppo is also partnering with Hasselblad for better image processing. The cooperation is for three years. This means, we will see a few more Oppo devices with Hasselblad camera support produced in the future.

Going back to the Marisilicon X chip earlier, in a nutshell it will improve video recording and photos taken in dim lighting. According to Oppo, it supports noise reduction software with artificial intelligence capabilities. This is to restore details on images and video recordings that may be lost due to lack of lighting.

The Oppo Find X5 Pro uses a tri-camera system on the back. Two of them use 50MP lenses with Sony IMX766 sensors. One is for the main sensor, while another 50MP is for ultra-wide capabilities. If you remember, this is the same sensor used on the Find X3 Pro before. The use of this same sensor also allows the reproduction of images using the main camera and ultra-wide have colors that are not much different. The third sensor is a 13MP telephoto with 2X optical zoom, 5X hybrid zoom and 20X zoom.

Based on experience, we found the camera on the Oppo Find X5 Pro to work very well-especially for main and ultra-wide cameras. Starting with the camera app, it can be used smoothly without significant time lag even though the device uses a large sized sensor. At the same time, the autofocus system on this device also works fast enough for a variety of situations and circumstances. You can also find various built-in camera modes like Night, Video, Photo, Potrait, Pro, Pano, Dual-View Video and so on.

In terms of camera performance, we are satisfied with it. Whether used during the day or night, the picture quality is excellent. It looks bright and colorful. Subjects and objects taken look sharp without significant noise problems. Perhaps in some cases, there are times when it shows a somewhat saturated color and contrast. However, most of the images taken give satisfactory results, besides can also be directly uploaded to social media without any additional editing.

The same goes for catches at night. Arguably, shots using the built -in night mode or vice versa did not show such a significant difference. Except on really dim lighting. However, the results of pictures taken using night mode showed better improvement. Color processing is brighter than usual.Detail is also better with an acceptable noise level. Built -in night mode also comes with a built -in tripod feature that requires additional gadget support. This is because the capture process takes some time depending on the lighting. At the same time, you also need to make sure the device does not shake even slightly for a satisfactory capture result.

One more thing, it also offers an auto-macro converting feature. This feature is available on the main camera, where the sensor will change automatically when it is activated. The point here is, say you are using the main camera at a close distance to the subject. The sensor will automatically turn into a macro. It can however still be deactivated via settings if desired.

The collaboration with Hasselblad also allows you to use XPan mode as found on previous OnePlus devices. It will produce images with a fairly wide aspect ratio as if it were a classic experience using a Hasselblad Xpan camera. By default, it will display monochrome mode, but you can still change it to colored mode if desired.

In the meantime, it also offers the ability to adjust the level of light exposure manually as appropriate. In addition, there are some interesting built -in filters produced by Hasselblad. Known as Radiance, Serenity and Emerald, all three offer different image reproductions of scenarios. Examples are as below:

Some of the issues that exist make it difficult to get a perfect portrait photo result. We found the edge detection to be imperfect and it obscured the wrong background for some situations. The most notable example can be seen in one of the photos which shows the swing rope being blurred thus making it look strange.

Apart from that, the zoom capability is good up to 5X. The rest felt a bit inappropriate as the picture looked broken. This shortcoming is compounded by the wobbly viewfinder, making the process of taking pictures disrupted.

Battery

The Oppo Find X5 Pro is equipped with a 5000mAh battery which is larger than its predecessor. The charging system is also improved with support reaching 80W which is definitely able to shorten the recharging process time of the device. Along with it, it also supports a wireless charging system with 55W output power.

Battery performance is dependent on usage. On average, SOT readings can reach between 6 - 7 hours and usage in turn exceeds 12 hours with standard screen settings. The draft SOT readings then showed a slight decrease for 120Hz screen usage which was found to be only capable of lasting almost 5 hours on average.

It can however still be used for an entire day before having to charge it at night for normal use such as checking messages on WhatsApp, reading articles or listening to music on a regular basis. Then, the recharging process takes less than 1 hour.

Conclusion

The Oppo Find X5 Pro can be classified as an exciting device this year. Oppo's first attempt to produce its own chip really paid off when the result was not just a gimmick. However, that does not mean it is completely perfect because there are still some parts that need to be improved. For example the ability to photograph portraits can hopefully be improved in the future.

Next, zoom capabilities may also be offered to make it have more attractive added value.

Praise is given to Oppo's wisdom in offering a good device body for all aspects. The use of ceramic makes the device look elegant, then the use of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus is also very helpful to protect the device. Next, the camera’s capabilities are also good overall and the battery life is also good.

What about the price? RM4,999 may be quite high for some. But, the Oppo Find X5 Pro is undeniably a good smart device. It is also recommended for those who need a landmark device with pretty good camera capabilities. However, you also still have a selection of devices with comparable chips and performance such as the Samsung Galaxy S22+, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, Poco F4 GT and Motorola Edge 30 Pro.
