The head of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, has made another controversial statement. He said countries that joined NATO could be destroyed by Russia in just 30 minutes in the event of a nuclear war.
"In a nuclear war, NATO countries will be destroyed by us within half an hour," Rogozin wrote in a Telegram post.
"But we must not allow it, because the consequences of a nuclear strike exchange will affect the state of our Earth," he said.
As quoted from IFL Science, Rogozin said that Russia must defeat this economically and militarily stronger enemy by conventional military means.
"Such a victory is possible with the full solidarity of the whole country with the army, with the mobilization of the country's economy, with the transfer of the military-industrial complex and the Russian-related industrial sector to a military footing. And this must be done urgently and quickly," he said.
Rogozin was right in his claim that the effects of nuclear war would destroy the Earth. A study published in Environment Magazine in 2017 found that even a "small" nuclear war could trigger a "nuclear fall".
The researchers note that previous research has found that a single nuclear explosion is enough to destroy an area by sending 5.5 million tons of ash and soot into the stratosphere, blocking sunlight, lowering temperatures and precipitation (up to 80%) in some regions of the world. , and has a significant effect on crop production over the years.
Rogozin is known for his inflammatory and provocative statements, especially since the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops. Over the past weekend for example, he threatened Elon Musk.
"From the testimony of the captured commander of the 36th Marine Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Colonel Dmitry Kormyankov, it turns out that the internet terminal of Elon Musk's Starlink satellite company was sent to the Nazi and Ukrainian Azov Battalion militants. Marines to Mariupol by military helicopter," Rogozin wrote on his Telegram account. .
"Elon Musk, as such, was involved in supplying fascist forces in Ukraine with military communications. And for this, Elon, you will be held accountable, no matter if you pretend to be stupid," he said.
Elon Musk responded to the threat, jokingly tweeting, "if I die under mysterious circumstances, it's a pleasure to meet you all". This tweet led to him being scolded by his mother, Maye Musk, who found the joke not funny at all.
