Secrets of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Fold 3 that no one knows about

Samsung has revealed a number of kitchen secrets about the manufacture of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Fold 3 that have not been revealed to the public. Even though the information disclosed is important enough that people do not hesitate to adopt folding screen phones.

As we know, durability is one aspect that makes people still hesitant to switch to folding screen phones. Many are worried that the device is easily damaged because it is often opened and closed or accidentally dropped and exposed to water.

Even though Samsung often believes that the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Fold 3 have better resistance than their predecessors. A number of claims were revealed which unfortunately still haven't moved the hearts of some potential consumers to switch to folding screen phones for the same reason, namely durability.

Trying to convince again, Jinhwan Jeong --Engineer Advanced Lab - CMF MX Business Samsung Electronics-- revealed the resilience brought by the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Fold 3. He made an analogy that if the user is in a car that has a frame as strong as a military tank, it will give a sense of safe from any possible emergency while driving.

"That's the main reason why we are so focused on the durability of our mobile devices. And we want to make the frame as strong as possible so that users are calm when using the products we make," Jeong said during an online chat with a number of media in Southeast Asia recently.

But at the same time Samsung wants to make the phone thin and light in order to provide comfort when used.

"In order to create a balance, we tried to create a lot of opportunities (prototypes) to present a frame that is thin and light as well as stronger," said Jeong.

Further explained, Samsung made the Galaxy Z Flip 3 in three parts, consisting of two frames and one hinge. All parts are protected, but at the same time it is necessary to keep the folding movement as smooth as possible and make it durable despite potential external impacts.

From there, Samsung developed a new aluminum material for a stronger frame to add to the overall sturdiness of the device.

"We decided to name Armor Aluminum because it serves as a protector for our devices," said Jeong.

Jeong explained, the special feature of Armor Aluminum when compared to other metal elements such as stainless steel and aluminum alloy is that it is lighter and stronger. At the same time it allows Samsung to perform different dyes on the surface area, as well as processing the surface to keep it smooth and nice to the touch.

"So the key to the aluminum technology that we applied to the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Fold 3 is to add the right amount of alloying elements. With the right ratios and ensure that the alloying elements are spread throughout the frame so as to increase strength without compromising the quality of the surface of the frame," he said.

Jeong then shows a comparison of Armor Aluminum, 7,000 series and 6,000 series. The difference between each surface is clearly visible after the drop test.

Unfortunately Samsung does not allow showing the comparison image. A little depiction of Amor Aluminum only slightly dented, followed by the 7,000 series and the worst 6,000 series.

"The durability of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Fold 3 has increased by 10% compared to their predecessors. As far as we know, Armor Aluminum is the strongest aluminum alloy used in mobile devices," concluded Jeong.
